I think this rather large difference between my and many vegetarians' guesses at the worthiness of vegetarianism comes up because they think the relevant question is if the suffering to the pet is worse than the pleasure to themselves at eating the pet. This question sounds superficially plausibly relevant, but I believe on closer concern you will agree that it's the wrong question.
